Statement of Policy
The main purpose of the BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils is to provide a collective voice for the expression of parental views about public education in British Columbia.
To that end, our members are encouraged to submit resolutions, pertaining to a variety of issues relating to public education and the goals of this organization, to the Annual General Meeting for consideration by their peers. Those resolutions, voted on and carried, form the basis for this Statement of Policy.
The second aspect of this statement is the inclusion of resolutions passed at the Canadian Home and School Federation’s Annual Meetings, which are brought to our members by the BCCPAC Board of Directors. When the CHSF resolutions are discussed at the BCCPAC AGM, it is for the purpose of deciding whether the membership wishes to give support to or participate in them.
This Statement of Policy should be seen as a living document that will be subject to change. As requested actions are taken and/or the situation that brought about the resolution changes, policies will be revised or deleted as the membership sees fit.
At the 1997 AGM, the Board of Directors were directed to bring forward for reaffirmation all policies from 1992 to the present that were still valid, according to the purposes of the organization, and to delete all others.
The resolutions listed in this statement are taken from the 1992 AGM to the present and represent the views and wishes of the parents of BC, since the right for parents to advise on matters relating to the education of the province’s children came into effect.
The notation “C” after a policy number indicates a resolution originating from the Canadian Home and School Federation and adopted by BCCPAC.
