On the third Thursday of October, thousands of British Columbians will “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” in The Great British Columbia ShakeOut, the largest earthquake drill in BC History! The Canadian Red Cross RespectED:
Violence & Abuse Prevention Program invites you to attend the screening of their exciting new film, How to Help: A Youth Perspective on Bullying. As part of their mandate to prevent violence and abuse against children and youth, Red Cross has collaborated with Reel Youth to create a film that provides insights for parents whose children are being bullied. This fascinating film will help open up dialogue in schools, homes, community centres and amongst anyone who is interested in helping to put an end to bullying.
The screening of How to Help: A Youth Perspective on Bullying will take place on September 21st, 2012 at VIFF’s Vancity Theatre at the Vancouver International Film Centre.

TEDxKids@BC Third Event October 20 2012
TEDxKids@BC is a team of community minded volunteers who support kids in organizing exciting stage events, for kids and to celebrate kids…including kidults! Vancouver Aquarium School Programs: An Incredible Educational Experience for all ages
It’s back-to-school season, which means it’s time to sign up for the Vancouver Aquarium’s interactive school programs that are starting in October. Whether your students dream of becoming marine biologists, deep sea scientists or simply love animals, there's a school program that will engage their minds. Award–winning school programs offer plenty of hands-on activities, games, and behind-the-scenes action that inspire children’s and young adults’ minds and imagination.
They offer a variety of programs for all grade levels from kindergarten to Grade 12. All programs are developed to support the Prescribed Learning Outcomes of the B.C. Ministry of Education’s Integrated Resource Packages. Click here for full details
Credit Counseling Society Contest – September
November is “Financial Literacy Month” and in support the Credit Counseling Society is hosting a contest in September for grade school and high school students. This contest is geared towards students to provide their best ideas in regards to introducing money concepts to kids. Click here for further details
Sports Day in Canada– The third annual Sports Day in Canada will be celebrated on September 29, 2012. ParticipACTION, True Sport, CBC Sports and Healthy Families BC have teamed up to support schools in hosting local event during the week leading up (September 24-28). iWalk 2012 - DASH is pleased to announce that over 39, 000 students have signed up to participate in this year’s iWalk week. Happening in schools across BC and countries all over the world, International Walk to School Week is an annual event that occurs October 8th to 12th, 2012. To make iWalk a truly international experience this year, DASH is launching the 1st annual Walk the Globe program. 4-H kids are the future of agriculture
The government of British Columbia is investing in the future of agriculture with an $87,000 grant for the B.C. 4-H program. The 4-H program has been around for over 95 years. Today more than 2,200 youth between the ages of six and 21 participate in programs throughout B.C. Special projects are available for young adults.
The goal of the 4-H program is youth development, with a focus on knowledge, leadership, citizenship and personal development. The personal leadership skills learned in B.C. 4-H can be applied to any job in any sector - from agrifoods and tourism, to education and health care.
